The Patrol Division of the Watervliet Police Department consists of 14 Patrol Officers, 2 Traffic Officers, 6 Sergeants and 1 Lieutenant. The Patrol Division is broken into 3 tours of duty; First Platoon (12 A.M. to 8 A.M.), Second Platoon (8 A.M. to 4 P.M.) and Third Platoon (4 P.M. to 12 A.M.). Each Platoon has a contingent of Patrol Officers and 2 Sergeants. A Traffic Officer is assigned to the Third Platoon. The Lieutenant, Patrol Operations Supervisor, is responsible for the administrative duties and day to day activities of the Patrol Division. The Watervliet Police Department is a full service, 24 hour a day department. Calls for service range as they would for any small urban city, from barking dogs to homicides. The Police Department averages between 1,400 and 1,700 calls for service each month. The department’s arrests average between 1,100 and 1,200 each year. In addition to patrolling the City in marked police vehicles the patrol division deploys up to 4 bicycle units at a time. The bikes are used in our city parks, county bike trial that runs along the Hudson River, parade details and normal patrol duties. |
